Works On Gold Leaf

Gold leaf features gloriously in art history, from the tombs of Egyptian pharaohs to illuminated medieval manuscripts and the opulent portraits of Gustav Klimt. While real gold leaf is out of the price range of most artists, imitation gold leaf made from a composite of copper and zinc is a convincing substitute. Properly sealed, the imitation gold leaf base provides a luminosity and warmth that has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. I created a dozen works on gold leaf for my featured exhibit at the Asheville Gallery of Art in May 2026.
